Laundry, The Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Donnie and Marie, or Hockey? What To Do On A Travel Day 06/08/2018 The million-to-one shot came in. Hell froze over. A month of Sundays hit the calendar. That was Shirley Povich’s lead in the Washington Post the morning after Don Larsen’s perfect game in game 5 the 1956 World Series. Shirley may have recycled it today had he lived to see game 5 of the 2018 Stanley Cup Finals. Last night in Las Vegas, down 3-2 in the third period, Devante Smith-Pelly and Lars Eller scored two unanswered goals to lead the Washington Capitals over the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 to

Sleepless in Seattle, Raising Arizona, Padres Show Braves Who’s Their Daddy 06/05/2018 The two things I was looking forward to in Seattle was enjoying a good cup of coffee and a sub-three hour game so we could get to our next stop, Phoenix, by first pitch. As for the coffee, we were running late so I had to settle for McDonald’s McCafe. As for the game, there was to be no quick getaway from Safeco Field as the Mariners and Rays played 13 innings, capped off by Mitch Haniger’s walk off homer at the 4:16 mark and Seattle outlasting Tampa Bay 4-3. In other games: In Phoenix, Matt

On Memorial Day in Detroit, the temps climbed to an unseasonable 92 degrees for the Tigers-Angels game (The last time Steve and I were in Detroit for the 2012 World Series, the temperatures barely climbed beyond the freezing mark. The effects of Hurricane Sandy forced all flights to be cancelled and we had to scramble to find a rent a car to get home). EV-ing our way out of the Motor City to Los Angeles we

Cleveland Rocks, What Was, What Is, and The Road Ahead 05/28/2018 It was a 22 hour drive from Miami to Cleveland, but the Indians and Astrosrewarded us with a baseball game for the ages, with the Tribe outlasting Houston 10-9 in 14 innings. What was billed as a pitchers duel between former UCLA teammates Trevor Bauer and Gerrit Cole turned out to be a barn burner decided well after both starters had gone to the showers. Cleveland’s relief corps couldn’t protect a 3-2 lead, giving up six runs in the top of the eighth inning, capped off by an Evan Gattis

If It’s Wednesday This Must Be Houston, or Two Stars in the “Lone Star State” 05/23/2018 We’re coming up on the half way point of the Epic EV Roadtrip. So far over 17 days we’ve logged 7500+ miles, traveled through 29 states, weathered rain delays, rainouts, and hail storms, visited 17 ballparks, and watched 16 ballgames first pitch to last. We’ve seen an inside-the-park homerun (Aaron Hicks in KC), and something almost as rare these days, a complete game shutout (Miles Mikolas in St. Louis). We watched Justin Verlander pass Christy Mathewson on MLB’s career strikeout list. We
