Baseball is considered America’s pastime. It is followed by fans across the country and many think of baseball when they think of summer activities. Virginia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering alumnus Steve Ahart (B.S ’85, M.S. ’86) and his brother Dave are among those people. It didn’t take long for crowds to gather around the centerpiece of the Earth Day Festival –two shiny fully-electric tesla cars. Curious onlookers cirled the cars and peered into their "frunk" – a second trunk space in front made possible by the lack of an engine. Steve Ahart, owner of the red Model 3, exuded the enthusiasm of a kid with a new toy as he explained the many benefits of owning and driving an electric vehicle.  Read more...

...This year’s special treat was to have the Tesla electric cars on display. The fully electric car has no engine, does need fuel or oil and does not emit any unsafe fumes. There is currently a 2-year waiting list for the vehicle. One owner of the Tesla said he put down a $1,000 deposit two years ago and finally got his vehicle several (days) ago. “It was well worth the wait, I’m enjoying it greatly,” he said.. Steve and Dave Ahart head for their first ballpark – Wrigley Field in Chicago – on a 30-day trek to visit 30 Major League Baseball stadiums.
